The scheduled annual general assembly – Panaghugpong2023 was held last September 23, 2023 as a kick-off event to start the weeklong celebration of the 64th Founding Anniversary of Cor Jesu College.
The event started at 10:30AM with a paraliturgical celebration officiated by Mr. Clenton. Oplas of the CJC Sacred Heart Formation and Mission Office (SHFM) at the Student Lounge of the Coindre building in Cor Jesu College campus. Mr. Darren Simon Edem, president of the alumni association Board of Trustees for 2022-2025, opened the general assembly with an introduction of all the members of the board of trustees, followed by a welcome address highlighting the historical construction of the association’s biggest project – the Chapel at the Piazza del Sacro Cuore.
Engr. Nelson Tandug, CJC’s Alumni Affairs Officer and ex-officio member of the alumni association board of trustees presented the annual report for the fiscal year 2022 to 2023 which ended May 31, 2023. In his report, Engr. Tandug showed the 3-year running financial status of the association which culminated with a minimal net-loss compared to the net incomes from the previous two fiscal years – largely attributed to the Chapel Project’s expenses towards the end of the fical year. The latest status of the Chapel Project was also discussed, to be accentuated with a view of the construction site over lunch which was served at the perimeter of the Piazza del Sacro Cuore.
Mr. Edem, the president, ended the general assembly, after exciting interruptions with raffling of prizes such as vacuum flasks and three Xiaomi smartphones, with a discussion of the association’s plans for Megahugpong2024 – a grand alumni homecoming for all levels, in time for the celebration of Cor Jesu College’s 65th Blue Sapphire Anniversary.

During the discussions, Engr. Tandug challenged the various alumni departments to create a major homecoming event through the sponsorships by selected alumni groups on September 2024.
The major sponsoring department(s) will be identified in the succeeding meetings of the board of trustees and will be given sufficient preparation time in the coming months.
Lunch followed at the Bouley building walkway fronting the chapel construction site. As the alumni participants enjoyed their lunch, the roofing materials were unloaded at the construction site in full view of everyone.
