Marjorie T. Jorillo BLIS 2014

Marjorie Tolentino Jorillo graduated with academic distinction with a degree of Bachelor of Library and Information Science in 2014. She placed 4th in the Licensure examination of April 2015, out of 742 takers and the only topnotcher from Mindanao.

Currently, she is the Health Sciences librarian of Cor Jesu College at the Sto. Rosario campus in Tres de Mayo.

Marjorie is the eldest child of the Jorillo family who now calls Barangay Ihan, Kiblawan, home. But that would be cutting her life story too short. This young lady achiever, who will be all of 21 on the eve of Cor Jesu’s 56th anniversary, was born in Sampaloc Manila and spent most of her childhood in Makati City. She finished her elementary studies at the Pitogo Elementary School. After a 2-year stint in San Jose del Monte Bulacan where she finished her second year high school, a fateful family relocation to her father’s home town in Sitio Boongon, Brgy. Ihan in Kiblawan, Davao del Sur, flipped this young girl’s life for good.

From the buzzling city life in Makati, her early years in Kiblawan provided stark contrast with no electricity, piped-in water, nor concrete roads. None of these; however, broke Marjorie’s spirit and she promptly graduated High School Valedictorian at Holy Cross of Kiblawan. Despite the major language barrier, she prevailed and her championship achievement in her senior year’s participation in Cor Jesu College’s sponsored Battle of the Academic Wizards bought her a 100% tuition fee scholarship to her college Alma Mater. In 2014, she delivered her speech as  Valedictorian. Top of class!

Last June 26, 2015, during the annual celebration of the Feast of the Sacred Heart, Cor Jesu College awarded Marjorie with a check for P 50,000.00 for placing 4th in the Librarian’s licensure exam.

After the awarding ceremonies, a motorcade around Digos City celebrated her achievement together with her batchmates who scored 100% passing rate for BLIS this year.

With her brand new laptop sitting proudly at her workstation, some money tucked in the bank, and a cow happily grazing somewhere in the grasslands of Ihan, Kiblawan, Marjorie looks forward to bigger challenges as she now plays the role of guardian to Jomari, a freshman in Cor Jesu College BSIT, and to Maria Andrea, Grade 7 under the STEM program of DCNHS. The siblings stay in Digos City for convenience and proximity to their places of work and study. She is currently taking her master’s degree in Library and Information Science at Cor Jesu College.
